Foundation Stone of Smart City project laid

The foundation stone of the Rs. 1700 crore Smart City project, a joint venture of the Kerala Government and Dubai TECOM Investments was laid at Kochi on November 16, 2007.

Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and TECOM Executive Director, Fareed Abdulrahman jointly laid the foundation stone at function at Edachira nearly Kakkanad, Kochi.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister said the project was being started with lot of expectations as it envisages creating huge employment opportunities.

“IT based industries from across the globe have approached the State Government to set up similar knowledge- based initiatives in various parts of the State.” Chief Minister said after inaugurating the function at a special venue in Kakkanad.

The Chief Minister also thanked the people whose land was acquired for the project and the Government officials who completed the acquisitions proceedings in a time bound manner.
