About Insurance Medical Services Department Employees State Insurance Scheme of India is the country's first integrated multi-dimensional social security scheme for workers in the organized sector. Medical care under this scheme is implemented in the State of Kerala through the Insurance Medical Services. To provide comprehensive medical care to about 4 lakhs insured persons and their dependents totalling 20 lakhs in Kerala State. Major Functions of the department Medical facilities are provided through 13 ESI Hospitals, one ESI annex in Govt. Chest Diseases Sanatorium, Pulayanarkotta, Thiruvananthapuram, 136 full time dispensaries and 10 part time dispensaries. Treatments under allopathic, ayurvedic and homeopathic systems of medicine are provided to the beneficiaries. All ESI Hospitals and 34 ESI Dispensaries are functioning in the building owned by the Corporation and the remaining dispensaries in the State are functioning in rented accommodation.On 1st January 2003, ESI Hospital Asramam was handed over to ESI Corporation to be converted into a Model Hospital.At present ESI Hospitals in Kerala do not have super speciality treatment facilities. For providing super speciality medical care there is tie up arrangements with advanced medical institutions, both in public and private sector. ESI Scheme in the State fully finances those requiring super speciality treatments. In such instances they are referred from the ESI Hospitals to Medical Colleges in the State, Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi or Fatima Hospital, Kozhikode. The medical benefit is administered with the active cooperation of the State Government and the ESI Corporation has constituted a Revolving Fund at the level of Regional Director, ESIC to facilitate advance / reimbursement through regional office against sanction received from the State Government. |
