About us The Motor Vehicles Department is a line department of Transport Department, Government of Kerala. The Department came into existence as per Section 133-A* of Motor Vehicles Act 1939 on 1st June 1958. Till then the traffic branch of Police Department was administering the Motor Vehicles Laws in Kerala. The Department has undergone a number of changes over the years and now it has a four tier functional system as follows:
I.Transport Commissionerate II.Four Zonal Offices headed by Deputy Transport Commissioner III.Eighteen Regional Transport Offices including the Regional Transport Office (Nationalised Sector) exclusively for KSRTC headed by Regional Transport Officers. There are also nineteen Motor Vehicle Check Posts headed by Motor Vehicle Inspectors under the control of Regional Transport Officers. IV. Forty Seven Sub Regional Transport Offices at Taluk level headed by Joint Regional Transport Officers. * Section 213 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 Mission To provide the services as per the Motor Vehicles Acts and Rules, with transparency, efficiency, timely and quality to all the citizens equally.
