Allopathy
First
medical college was established in Thiruvananthapuram in
1951. Now the field has grown to comprise 6 medical colleges
(Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikkod, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Thrissur
and Kannur) and 4 dental colleges (Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikkod,
Kottayam and Alappuzha)

SCTIMST
The
Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology
is an 'Institute of National Importance' with the status
of a full fledged university. It offers a member of PG training
programmes leading to DM and MCL degrees in Cardiovascular
and neurological disciplines, Ph.D. in medical science and
bio-medical technology. It also conducts postdoctoral certificate
courses in Anesthesiology and Radiology and 18 month course
leading to the degree of Master of Public Health (MPH)
Ayurveda
There
are 5 Ayurveda Colleges ( Thiruvananthapuram, Thrippunithura,
Ollur, Kottakkal and Kannur). Only the BAMS degree of the
Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram is recognised by the
Central Council of Indian Medicine.
Homeopathy
First
college in this sector was started in 1975 at Kozhikkod.
Now, there are 5 homeopathic medical colleges of which 2
are in government sector and the remaining 3 in the private
sector.
