TECHNICAL HIGH
SCHOOLS
The need for Technical Education at High School level is
being met by 39 Technical High Schools in the state. The
curriculum includes specialisation in any one of 24 selected
trades. The intake capacity for T H S is 2085 per annum.
Quite a few THS are located in remote Area.
GOVERNMENT
COMMERCIAL INSTITUTE
There are 17 Government Commercial Institutes in the state,
which offer post S S L C, two-year course leading to the
Diploma in shorthand and typewriting. The total annual intake
in G C I is about 1500. Now these institutions are under
the control of District Panchayath.
FOOD
CRAFT INSTITUTE
There is one Food Craft Institute with 8 extension Centres
under the department. These institutions offer two-year
certificate courses in subjects like Cookery, Canning and
Food Preservation, House Keeping, Restaurant and Counter
Service, Hotel Reception, Industrial Institutional Food
Service Management, Book Keeping and Typewriting, Bakery
and confectionery.
CENTRE
FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING
To impart Vocational Training to students who have passed
VII standard 47 training centres function under the department.
The subject taught are Tailoring and garment making, Composing,
Book binding Weaving, Rattonwork etc. The total intake is
about 2000 students per annum. Now these institutions are
under the control of District Panchayath.
COMMUNITY POLYTECHNIC SCHEME
With a view to transfer the latest Technology to the under
developed rural areas and to train the rural youths in handling
the modern implements, community Polytechnics have been
established throughout the country. The Polytechnics at
Pandalam, Alappuzha, Alagappanagar, Triprayar, Perunthalmanna,
Kanhangad, Kannur, Meenangady, Kozhikode, Palakkad, W P
T Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kottackal, Kayamkulam,
Kalamassery R W P T Payyannur G P Koratty, Vennikulam, Kasargod,
IPT& GP Shorunur, S S M Tirur, S N Kottiyam and C P
T Thiruvananthapuram function as Community Polytechnic with
Direct Central Assistance from Government of India in our
state. The Community Polytechnics evolve and implement various
programmes aimed at an integrated rural development of the
rural areas. The activities of the Community Polytechnics
have contributed significantly in improving the general
standards of living in the adjoining rural areas.
