Information
and Public Relations Department
(I&PRD)
The
Department of Information and Public Relations, the authoritative
and official publicity agency of Government of Kerala, functions
with the objectives of disseminating various information
concerning the government and government departments, feeding
government with the public views ensuring a healthy relationship
between the government and the public. The department functions
mainly through 13 wings besides the district information
offices and Kerala Information Centre in New Delhi. These
sections cater the needs of different media in publicising
government policies and developmental activities.
Major
activities of the department include publicising the policies
and programmes of the government; giving wide publicity
of the developmental and welfare programmes undertaken by
the government through print-visual-audio media; publishing
of books on subjects related with culture, education and
traditional artforms; publishing of brochures on social
and developmental subjects; content creation and maintenance
of Kerala Government official webportal www.kerala.gov.in
and the website www.prd.kerala.gov.in; screening of feature
films, documentaries and short films either produced or
purchased by the department in conformity with the social
and cultural interests of the state; organising press conferences
for ministers and officials; issueing of various departmental
advertisements to various media and payment advertisement
charges; fixing of the advertisement rate of different media
through negotiation etc. The
department is also entrusted with implementation of the
provisions of Cable TV Act and Press and Registration of
Books Act.
Organisational
Structure
The Director of Information and Pubic Relations Department
is assisted by an Additional Director and three Deputy Directors
at the Headquarters and six Regional Deputy Directors at
Kollam, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kannur.
There are 14 District Information Offices and one Kerala
Information Centre at New Delhi. District Information Office
headed by the District Information Officer is working in
association with respective District administrations and
LSGs.
Autonomous
Institutions
Kerala
Press Academy and C-DIT, two autonomous institutions under
the control of Information and Public Relations Department,
Government of Kerala, accomplish the administrative, technical
and promotional affairs of the public and private sector
with the help of advanced technologies in the field of Communication,
Journalism, Digital Photography, etc. In addition to the
technical assistance, they endow with Media Technology Courses
in line with the up-to-the-minute expertise.

Press Academy

Kerala Press Academy, a joint venture of Government of Kerala,
Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), and Indian News
Paper Society, is a media education provider of Kerala,
centred at Kakkanad, Kochi. The Academy offers postgraduate
diploma courses in Journalism, Mass Communication, Public
Relations and Advertising.
The Academy also conducts short duration refresher programmes
and seminars for journalists, public relations and Advertising
professionals.

Centre
for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT)

An autonomous institution under the Government of Kerala,
Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT), functions
through 11 financially independent and functionally focused
teams like Optical Image Processing Team (OIP), Visual Communication
Team (VCT), New Media Team (NMT), Educational Informatics
Team (EIT), Web Services Team (WST), Computational Linguistics
Team (CLT), e-Governance Team (EGT), Software Engineering
Team (SET), Open Source Technology Team (OST), Communication
& Training Team (CTT) and Technology Extension Team
(TET).
C-DIT, located at Thiruvananthapuram, has a pool of highly
competent personnels to manage the advanced technological
work targets and acts as the ‘Total Service Provider’
to the various technical projects and assignments of government
as well as private sector.
