Administration of ESI scheme


The scheme is administered by a corporate body called the Employees` State Insurance Corporation. It comprises of members representing employees, employers, the Parliament, Central and State Governments, medical profession etc. It is primarily responsible for policy planning, decision making and oversees the functioning of the scheme. The ESIC is headed by the Union Minister of Labour as its chairman and day to day administration of the scheme is operated through a central office at New Delhi headed by a Director General. In Kerala State the head office of ESIC is located at Thrissur, headed by the Regional Director, under which there are 50 local offices all over the State which function as the service outlets.
