Safe Shelter

Tourist Cottages
Considering the possibility of developing tourism in Kerala, the Board proposes to construct 10 cottages each at important tourism centers.  At the initial stage, the Board will take necessary steps to construct cottages at Akkulam in the land possessed by Kerala State Housing Board.  Also Board proposes to construct tourist cottages at Munnar, Kuttanad, Kumarakom, Bekkal, Bhooththankettu, Thekkadi, Muzhichilakkad beech.

Rental Housing Scheme
The Board has taken up the Rental Housing Scheme by availing financial assistance from the Govt, the HUDCO & HDFC for the purpose of accommodating State government Employees.  Construction of 42 units at Perumbavoor with a project cost of Rs.268.8 lakhs has been completed during 97-98 and of another 78 units with a project cost of Rs.294.38 lakhs at Palakkad is in progress.  Construction of 298 units with a project cost of Rs.931.9 lakhs at Kuttanelloor, Kasaragod and Poojappura are to be started.  The Board has completed 1755 units so far.

Indoor Stadium Cum Shopping Complex
The Board in its meeting held on 6.3.97 has decided to take up a project of the construction of an Indoor stadium cum shopping complex at Thodupuzha. It is proposed to construct 67 shops in the ground floor of the proposed stadium. Parking facility will be provided in the basement floor.The court or the arena will be built on the first floor. On 1.08.2000, Board has approved the project report of the said scheme for a project cost of Rs.1562 lakhs. Govt have also accorded sanction for the construction of the project vide G.O.(MS)No.16/2000/Hsg dated 3.8.2000.The work will be started soon. 


Office Cum Commercial Complexes
Along with Public housing schemes, the Kerala State Housing Board has taken up the construction of office-cum-commercial/shopping complex in scheme areas as well as in the major cities and towns.  These schemes cater to the commercial/shopping needs of the area.  The rental/lease revenue is a major source of income of the Board.  The Board has constructed 19 commercial complex/shopping complex so far.  Balaramapuram Commercial complex completed during 2000-01.Construction  of commercial complex at  Kattappana and Chevarambalam are in good progress and the construction of another 15 nos are  at its initial stages. Construction of Commercial cum residential complexes at Malaparamba will start immediately

Amusement Park Cum Cultural Centre Project
Tourism is growing in Kerala.  This growth is not  solely attributed to the foreign tourists but also  to the phenomenal growth in domestic tourists.  Nowadays,  even  average families do go for a holiday at least twice or thrice in an year to holiday resorts and amusement parks.  Amusement parks provide fun and excitement not only to children but also to persons of all age.  Steps are being taken to establish an amusement park at Muttam, Thodupuzha near Malankara dam.
