KERALA HEALTH RESEARCH AND WELFARE SOCIETY
Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society was formed
in 1973 and registered as a Charitable Society under the
Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable
Societies Registration Act XII of 1955. The main objective
of the Society is to associate with the Government of
Kerala for rendering better facilities to the patients
in government hospitals. This includes the construction
of paywards with the help of financial institutions and
to take up specific construction works in the field of
child and undertake any other works as directed by the
government. So far KHRWS has constructed and commissioned
1840 single bedded paywards and 357 double bedded paywards
in 97 Government Hospitals including 5 Medical College
Hospitals.
Civil
Construction works taken up by the Society.
In
addition to the construction and upkeep of paywards, the
Society has also been entrusted with specific construction
works of some of the major projects in the Health and
other sectors. They are:
a)
India Population Project (IPP III)
This
was a World Bank aided project taken up in four backward
districts in Kerala viz. Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram
and wayanad during 1983-1991. KHRWS has completed the
construction works costing about Rs.35/- crores in record
time and to the full satisfaction of the World Bank Mission.
b)
Construction of building for Health Information and Training
Centre in DHS compound.
Government
have accord sanction for the construction of a building
for Health Information and Training Centre in the DHS
campus, Thiruvananthapuram at an estimated cost of Rs.40
lakhs and entrusted the work to KHRWS. The work is under
execution and is in good progress.
c)
Coastal Health Project.
The State Government have entrusted KHRWS the civil works
related to Kerala
Coastal Health Project which is beneficial to the backward
coastal areas in
Kerala.
Other
activities of the Society.
1)
C.T Scanner Unit at MCH Kozhikode
This unit started functioning from 3-7-1989. The Society
is doing free scan out of every
10 scans for the poor patients.
2)
I.V. Fluid Manufacturing Unit
The Society has installed an I.V.fluid manufacturing unit
at Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram at a project
cost of Rs. 57/- lakhs and commissioned on 19-11-1994.
The aim is to supply good quality of I.V.fluid to the
patients in Medical College hospitals and other government
hospitals at a lower cost.
3)
Cardiac Lab and Colour Doppler unit at MCH Kottayam
The Society
has installed on 6-5-1993 a Non-invasic Cardiac Lab in
the Department of Cardiology. MCH Kottayam consisting
of 3 instruments viz. Colour Doppler, Stressed Thread
Mill and Holter Monitor at a cost of Rs.48/- lakhs. Free
investigation is being provided for poor patients.
4)
Colour Doppler at MCH Kozhikode
The Society
has installed on 9-9-1994 a Colour Doppler unit at MCH
Kozhikode at a cost of Rs.43/- lakhs. Free investigation
is being given to the poor patients.
5)
Video Endoscopy Unit at MCH Thiruvananthapuram
The Society
has installed on 3-5-1993 the Video Endoscopy unit consisting
of Electronic Video Endoscopy and Ultra Sound Scanner
in the Department of Gastro Enterology in MCH Thiruvananthapuram
at a cost of Rs. 25/- lakhs. Free investigation is being
provided for poor patients.
6)
Modernisation of Gastro Lab at MCH Thiruvananthapuram
A Gastro lab
has been established in the Gastroenterology Department
of MCH Thiruvananthapuram and started functioning from
31-5-1997 at a cost of Rs.37.5 lakhs as part of modernising
the laboratory of the Department of Gastroenterology.
Three equipments viz. Auto Analyzer, Electronic Cell Counter
and ELISA Reader were installed there. Ten percent of
the tests are done free of cost to the poor patients.
7)
Ultra Sound Scanner and Colour Doppler at MCH Thiruvananthapuram
The Society
has installed an Ultra Sound Scanner and Colour Doppler
at MCH Thiruvananthapuram at a cost of Rs.21/- lakhs and
started functioning from 31-3-1997 for increasing the
diagnostic capabilities of the Radio diagnosis department.
8)
Cath Labs at MCH Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram
The Society
has installed Cath Lab at MCH Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode
at a cost of Rs.4.5 crores each. The commissioning of
Cath Lab at MCH Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram were
done on 24-5-1997 and 6-9-1997 respectively. The Cath
Lab is providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to
cardiac patients at reasonable rates. Ten percent of the
cases are done free of cost to poor patients.
