Apprenticeship Training Scheme as per App. Act 1961 is being implemented through 9 Related Instruction Centres (R.I.Centres) in 9 Districts and for the remaining 5 Districts through ITIs. The intention of the scheme is to provide the ITI passed out trainees more practical training in factories as per App. Act 1961 and make them fit to start self-employment programme.

            More over there is a Basic Training Centre (BTC) at Kollam to impart training in the following chemical and catering trades covered under the App. Act 1961.

          The Director of Employment & Training is designated as the State Apprenticeship Adviser, for the trades. Apprentices under the apprentice act 1961, He is posted a Deputy State Apprenticeship Adviser, There are 9 Training officers in 9 Related Instruction centers in 9 District. Who are designated as Assistant Apprenticeship |Adviser, In other districts like Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad, and Kasargod the Principals of the ITIs have been designated as Assistant Apprenticeship Advisers. The period of training of apprentices vary from six months to four years depending on the nature of the trade.

The Training Officer / Assistant Apprenticeship Adviser conducts periodical survey and re-survey of establishments, And engage the apprentices as per the ratio fixed in each trade to be engaged by the establishment.

The total number of establishments in the state engaging apprentices 703 (i.e., 194 in govt, 238 Nos in semi list and 271 nos in private sector) with an intake capacity of 6968 Against this, only 6129 apprentices 2933 belong to the weaker section viz.
