ACTIVITIES
(I) Publication of Cultural History
The
Department has formulated a Scheme to publish Cultural History
of Kerala in Malayalam and English in three Volumes. The
first volume in English has been published in December 1999
and the work of second volume is in progress.
(ii)
Publication of Samskarakerala
The
Department is publishing a quarterly called "Samskarakeralam"
containing outstanding articles of literature, history,
art, culture etc. The Department has published the quarterly
up to the issue of 2001 January December.
(iii)
Scheme of Financial Assistance for Publication of Books
Department
of Cultural Publications has a Scheme of giving financial
assistance to authors for publication of their books. Applications
for the same are invited during the month of December of
every year and the amount will be disbursed during the financial
year itself. The maximum financial assistance will not exceed
Rs.10,000/- Upon receiving the applications the Advisory
Board of the Department will decide it as merit. The authors
has to submit 10 (ten) printed copies of the books to which
the financial assistance has been given within a year of
receipt of amount.
(iv)
Samskarakeralam Award
Department
of Cultural Publications has instituted an award by name
Samskarakeralam award from 1998 onwards. The award will
be given to the authors of the most outstanding article
on Culture, History, Art, etc published in between January
1st and December 31st in Malayalam language. The award consists
of a cash amount of Rs.10, 000/- (Ten thousand) a memento
and a Certificate.
From
1998-99 the Department has formulated the following schemes
for compilation of books with the collective participation
of Scholars and writers in the respective field.
(i)
Janasamskarapadhathi
The
project is to collect and compile proverbs, legends, ballads,
customs, traditions folk entertainment etc which are scattered
in the various parts of the state. A series of volumes of
books are proposed to be published under the scheme. The
introductory volume is getting ready for publications.
(ii)
Books on the history of people's movements in Kerala under
the title "Keralathile Janakeeya Munnetta Dharakal"
The
Department propose to publish studies on people's movements
which have made significant influence in the history of
Kerala.
(iii)
Books on Visual Arts of Kerala
About
90 items of art forms have been identified to make detailed
study and to publish volumes of books under the scheme.
They have been classified under Art forms and Classical
Art forms.
(iv)
Books on the life and experience of eminent artists of Kerala
Another
project for publication of volumes of books by the Department
is collection of reminiscences of experience and contributions
of eminent artists of Kerala who have made significant contributions
in the world of performing arts. Steps have been taken to
write about the eminent artists of "Kathakali"
and "Drama"
(v)
Books on the Cultural Institutions Centers etc. of Kerala
There
is a scheme to make a comprehensive study on various cultural
institutions, monuments, Cultural centers and places in
Kerala which have cultural importance.
